ENGL210
Professor Carr
Dear fellow writers ,
This is a display of my development I have made throughout the semester. I am hoping to improve Further and gain more experience with different types of genre and essay formats. Many can relate to dealing with the inability to fully grasp a concept, especially writing in different ways such as narrative and informative , which I’ll be covering in this portfolio.
This course (ENGL210) covered various Topics, ideas and discussions. The class was immersive in discussions about interesting topics that a few of us can resonate with.We also discussed types of rhetorical elements: genre, media, purpose, stance, audience and exigenceAfter overlooking many projects that we have accomplished as a class I’ll be discussing different assignments we’ve completed in our time. For instance , scientific narrative and informative review. Including our ending multimodal project that consists of different forms of rhetorical elements.
This semester my perception on writing has changed, especially after having discussions with my class on various topics that piqued my interest. After hearing the opinions of Other’s your ideas may not change how you feel on the topic but how you interpret other’s ideas. The audience and purpose impact the context of text because it will Change how you choose to display and explain your audience. For example, If your audience is the younger age group such as ages 7-16 you wouldn’t give media to them through articles and newspapers. When knowing your audience ,it caters to your purpose. It was challenging writing across various genres and figuring out who your audience is. At times it was hard to clarify who I’m speaking to as the writer. But with the help of the class , I got a better idea of exploring and analyzing readings, writings and a variety of genres. My understanding of these topics we’re at a minimum, but after discussing and seeing examples of my classmates work I have a better understanding of ideas such as genre and my purpose for speaking on a topic. In class we did assignments like informative review and scientific narrative that gave us the space to exercise different forms of analyzing and writing.
At the beginning of the course we did a letter of introduction that asked us what we expected as we further developed our writing skills. My responses towards questions 7 and 9 have not changed I still believe the importance of audience analysis is versatile to development of writing.
